Terms of service

Effective

These terms are an agreement between you and Senal ([Senal's registered legal name], [Senal's registered address]), which provides Peritus at https://peritus.senalintel.com. By creating an account or using an API key you agree to them. If you use Peritus for an organization, you agree for it.

What the service is

Peritus returns facts about countries and geopolitics taken from public sources, each with its citation, or a typed abstention saying why it cannot answer. It is not legal, trading, or investment advice. Sources can be wrong, late, or incomplete, and so can we. Check the cited source before you rely on a fact for a decision that matters.

Accounts and keys

  • A key's secret is shown once, when you make it. Keep it secret: you are responsible for every request made with your keys.
  • Revoke a key you think is exposed. Revocation takes effect at once.
  • Each key has its own scopes, preset, and mode ceiling, which limit what it can do and see.

Credits, prices, and billing

  • Usage is paid for in advance with credits bought in US dollars through Stripe Checkout. A new account gets a one-time starting balance of $5.
  • Credits never expire.
  • Prices are on the rate card in the console. At launch a lookup costs $1 per 1,000 and an answer $0.03. A new price applies from the date it is published and never changes the price of usage already recorded.
  • A response is billed only when it is answered or partial and at least one item was answered. Abstentions and errors are never billed.
  • When the balance reaches zero, requests return 402 until you top up. The account routes still work, so you can.
  • Senal decides refunds and issues them through Stripe. Refunding credit that has already been spent can leave a negative balance.
  • We do not collect sales tax, VAT, or GST at launch. You are responsible for any tax that applies to your purchases.

Rate limits and daily caps

Each plan sets a request rate per key and per account, and a daily cap. A request over a limit returns 429. Do not try to get around a limit, for example by spreading one workload over many accounts.

Source licences and attribution

Every response lists the attribution each source's licence requires, and every item carries its source's licence link. When you show or pass on what we return, keep those attributions and follow each source's licence. Some sources allow only some content to be shown, so some items come back without their passage text.

Use-restriction tags

Some sources forbid some uses of their content, such as monitoring protests and other sensitive events, insurance underwriting, or training models. Content from such a source carries a use-restriction tag. Do not use tagged content for the use its tag forbids. Presets leave out the tags their use case cannot accept; choose the preset that matches your use.

The capital-markets attestation

At signup an account may attest that it is not a capital markets client or a market data distributor. Some prediction-market content is withheld from accounts without it. An attestation must be true when made, and you must withdraw it in the console as soon as it stops being true. We rely on it.

Acceptable use

Do not:

  • break the law, or help anyone else break it, with the service;
  • try to reach another account's data, test the service's security without our written permission, or disrupt it;
  • share keys outside your organization, or get around rate limits, caps, or policy controls;
  • resell raw access to the service as your own data feed;
  • use content for a purpose its source's licence or use-restriction tag forbids.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or revoke keys, or suspend or close an account, if it breaks these terms, puts the service or other accounts at risk, or if the law requires it. We will tell you why unless the law or security prevents it. You may stop using the service at any time. Unused credit is refunded only where the law requires it or where Senal decides to.

Your data

You keep the rights in what you send us. We process it as the privacy policy and the data processing agreement say, and you control how long responses are logged.

Changes

We may change the service. We will post any change to these terms here with a new effective date, and email account owners about a material change before it takes effect.

Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, Senal gives no warranty that it is accurate, complete, available, or fit for a purpose, and its liability is limited to [liability limit].

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by [governing law]. Disputes go to [venue for disputes].
